Salamanca faces the challenge of its consolidation as European hub of culture, education and tourism. Since the creation of the original fort, more than 2,300 years ago, Salamanca has known for centuries how to harmonize its rich historical and artistic heritage and its recognized status as a city of meetings and knowledge with a renewed calling for modernity and innovation.

The contemporary Salamanca is, above all, an open and universal city, which is firmly committed to the development in all fields of life and knowledge. A city with a formidable cultural activity and a clear determination in favour of the best services offered to its citizens and to those who honour us with their visit.

These and other conditions have led to the declaration of World Heritage City which holds Salamanca since 1988 and the designation of European Capital of Culture in 2002. The city, which also accredits other relevant titles such as very noble, very loyal, Welcoming, Charitable, Refined, Learned and Wise, is prepared forward to show the world its cosmopolitan image, with excellent provision in the cultural infrastructure field and careful urban and monumental improvement.
